South Sudan: Mongolia's President Elbegdorj Visits South Sudan

President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia is visiting South Sudan to see where troops from his country serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have been deployed. He visited soldiers on the ground in Bentiu and Rumbek.

President Elbegdorj and President Salva Kiir also held bilateral discussions on regional and international issues, discussing the role of the international community in helping South Sudan and the Sudan resolve their disputes, according to South Sudan's information minister, Barnaba Marial Benjamin. South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit told President Elbegdorj that while secession from neighboring Sudan was an "irreversible reality" the country could never move away from being a neighbor of Sudan.

He said "We should from now focus on how to build and promote strong cooperation and ties with all our neighbors, including the Republic of Sudan. Our strategic focus should be to create and promote the vision of two viable states living side by side", the president said.
