Ammo in air filters seized in Oakland

U.S. customs agents seized 2,300 rounds of ammunition hidden in the air filters of cars bound for Mongolia at the Port of Oakland, authorities said Thursday.

The ammunition was found by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents inspecting a container in December that was declared to contain three personal vehicles - a 2006 Lexus RX400, a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and a 2007 Toyota Camry - said agency spokesman Frank Falcon.

The seized rounds, hidden in the cars' air filters, included those for rifles and shotguns, authorities said. The value of the seized ammunition and three cars is more than $45,000, Falcon said.
