MONGOLIA WANTS TO REGISTER ITS MOUNTAIN IN CULTURAL HERITAGE LIST

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Environment and Tourism has decided to register Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and the reserved area of Daguur in the list of the UNESCO Cultural and Natural Heritage.


In 1992, Burkhan Khaldun Mountain was taken in special protection of the state, so the Ministry intends to register the Mountain in the list as the world's very first worshipped mountain where Chingis Khaan was born.

The Ministry's experts have drawn up related materials and have conveyed them to the State Head's assistant.
The reserved area of Daguur locates across territories of Mongolian Dornod aimag and Russia's Chita Oblast and it was taken in a special protection by a trilateral agreement of Mongolia, Russia and China in 1994.

Officials of a commission set up by the #230 order of the State Head have left for Russia to introduce the documents to the UNESCO meeting which has kicked off in Chita city.

The Ministry plans to send the materials to the UNESCO Committee on natural and cultural heritage in September 30 of this year. It is expected a final decision on registration of the reserved lands will be made in 2014 in accordance with the rule.
